Born and raised in on the famous East side of Long Beach, Ca. mostly made famous by rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg and rock band Sublime. Actor Darrius Garrett has dreamed of being a star and doing what he love most...entertaining. Since the age of 2 he has enjoyed being the center of attention from family members and friends. Darrius has performed for different church plays and Talent shows but as a teen Darrius put his love for entertainment to the side to try his hand at sports playing Football in high school in 1995. He also encountered the everyday pressures of the streets learning a lot of bad habits that cost him his time and opportunity. After being jailed for drug possession Darrius was faced with a fork in the road when he met a teacher by the name of Erin Gruwell, which taught him about change and challenged him to change his life for the better. Obviously, Darrius made the right decision, which led him to be part of one of the most admirable group of young people to serve their community entitled "The Freedom Writers." Darrius became a catalyst for change co writing a book entitled "Freedom Writers Diary" which went to sell millions of copies and achieve numerous awards including reaching #1 on the New York Times best sellers list. The book was picked up by Actress Hilary Swank and made into a major film entitled "Freedom Writer" released in 2007. That was one of the most life changing experiences ever in his life.

Being on the set of Freedom Writers, Darrius states that he felt at home. He realized that is where he needed to be. At that moment Darrius decided he realized what he has been missing, his love for acting and having the opportunity to create and breathe life into a character to tell a story. Every since that day Darrius has vowed to get into the industry of acting and give 150% to being the best actor he could be. Since then, Darrius has joined the Theater Program at El Camino college-Compton under the guidance and teaching of Actor/Musician/Professor Dr. PJ Van Neil where so far Darrius has been part of two productions and writing a Play entitled "Greater Visions" that was performed. Although Darrius is new to film he has been around it all his life being around various actors and actresses and taking classes perfecting his skill and now ready to show the world.

When acting; I believe I am pretty good at it because for a brief moment I am able to put down the burdens and trials of being Darrius Garrett and I am able to live, breath, and simply be someone else until the director yells "Cut". Depending on how deep the role is; it can be a scary place as sometimes you may not want to return from being the character in which you are portraying.
